A third of European AI professionals say management does not understand the risks and opportunities of AI
Dataiku, the platform for 'Everyday AI', together with Databricks, conducted research among senior AI professionals at large enterprises worldwide on the status of Generative AI, ROI of AI tools and AI use cases, among others.
The results of the global survey show that European senior AI professionals are more likely to see Generative AI as a revolution that will change the way we work (29 per cent), compared to the US (23 per cent). Moreover, European data professionals are more likely to have clear processes for successfully implementing and commissioning AI projects (57 per cent), compared to the US (43 per cent).
However, European participants also believe that existing AI regulations are inadequate: just under half agree that more regulations are needed for AI, and a third replied that they do not believe that business leaders (either C-Suite) have a good understanding of the risks and benefits of AI.
Perception and implementation
The results coming from European respondents are part of a larger global survey of 'data leaders' in various enterprises and industries. This survey took place in June 2023 to explore the adoption and perception of artificial intelligence (AI). Respondents were divided on AI maturity: almost half (48 per cent) said they were in the process of integrating or expanding data science and AI, while 51 per cent were still in the experimental phase or were setting up AI.
It was striking that the implementation of AI did not go hand in hand with measuring its value. Almost two in five (37 per cent) data professionals said they justified the value of data science and AI initiatives with consistent frameworks or included AI on the balance sheet in the same way as other strategic initiatives. In contrast, 55 per cent of respondents used inconsistent tracking or recorded results only on sometimes or on not representative.
