AdUp makes online checkout faster, easier and more personal
No endless fill-in forms or payment steps, just pay for your online order in one click: thanks to the services of Dutch scale-up AdUp, the payment process is faster, smoother, more personal and user-friendly for customers. Result? Up to 30 per cent sales increase for online retailers.

The world of online checkouts is changing rapidly. As many as 70 per cent of filled (online) shopping carts are abandoned after seeing cumbersome and time-consuming payment steps, according to research by the Baymard Institute into E-Commerce Checkouts in America and Europe. This is a global loss of $11.6 trillion. This is huge and causes frustration for both shoppers and retailers: Shoppers and online retailers need smoother checkouts. Tech company AdUp cleverly responds to this and from now on makes checkout at an online shop a little easier with their AI Checkout. AdUp founder Maikel Snijders: "By making the checkout process faster and more personal, the visitor gets to see the right information at the right time and online retailers can offer an optimal customer journey. We combine local payment methods with personalisation, Fast Checkouts and AI, making our checkout actually always simpler, more personal and faster. And thus generate more sales."

AdUp has developed its own AI, which shows the perfect checkout to customers based on visitor information. So every shopper gets a customised checkout with the AdUp tools. Because every customer is unique and has their own preferences. For example, one customer wants to see delivery options at a glance, and another cares more about reviews. "A 23-year-old woman buying make-up requires a different experience than someone who wants to buy a TV. All this kind of data is taken into account in our AI Checkout and this is how we ensure that the shopper gets an optimal user experience and the webshop gets more conversion," Snijders explains.

Hole in the market
Snijders began his entrepreneurial mission in early 2019. After studying communication at the Hogeschool Arnhem, he worked at several Amsterdam agencies as a social media strategist and growth hacker. He committed to many a webshop and saw a gap in the market. "50 to 70 per cent of consumers drop out within a payment process. Not surprisingly; it takes them too much time or is cumbersome. And the checkout is the same for everyone. Even when I bought something myself, I noticed that I had to fill in a lot of information and go through several steps before finally placing an order. That's when I started making a plan to make checkout easier." Not much later, AdUp was born and soon interest from the market grew.

The company has since partnered with Buckaroo, Pay, XXL Nutrition and ConvertCreator, among others, and has grown from a start-up to a scale-up. "The AI Checkout greatly shortens the purchase process for the customer; from a minute and a half to a one-click checkout of 10-15 seconds," says Snijders.

AdUp offers their software through Payment Service Providers and platforms, and directly to large e-commerce websites. "With our software, you don't even need a webshop anymore. This is because it is a so-called 'headless' checkout, which can also be deployed separately on marketing statements. We have several cases where AdUp generated an average of 30 per cent extra conversion."
